Does playtime get any better than in Raquette Lake?
When you choose to vacation in the Adirondacks, you're choosing a 6 million acre state park comprised of privately and publicly owned land. The Adirondack State Park is the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states.
Raquette Lake is centrally located: 5-6 hrs from Manhattan, Buffalo, Boston or Philadelphia; 3.5 hrs from Montreal; 2.5 hr drive from Albany, Syracuse, Burlington (Vt) or Plattsburgh; 1.5 hr drive from Utica/Rome, Glens Falls or Lake Placid; 1/2 hr drive from Old Forge, Indian Lake or Long Lake.
When you get here, you've entered sacred space. The State land is constitutionally protected from any kind of development- thus "forever wild." Raquette Lake, with 99 miles of shoreline, is the largest natural lake in the Adirondacks. 80% of the shoreline is owned by the State so you won't see many camps or people- just pristine shoreline, woods and wildlife. Besides the obvious outdoor recreation opportunities there are other forms of entertainment Visit the Natural History Museum in Tupper Lake, the Wild Center! Lake Placid and the Winter Olympic venues are just 75 miles north- a nice day trip. Other day trip possibilities include Inlet and Old Forge with shopping and dining options galore! So much to do you'll have to come again and again!
