We honor the memory of Garry Hazen.

Back to Raquette Lake News

We honor the memory of Garry Hazen.

We just received word Garry died this morning.  His leukemia came back with a vengeance.  We have a long history with Garry and his family.  At one time Dean had 3 Garry Hazens working for him:  Garry’s dad, Garry and his son Garry.  Garry was one of Dean’s main men for almost 20 years when Dean was maintenance superintendent at Raquette Lake Camps.  Garry did all the plumbing and wiring when the Durant was under construction.   He was an integral part of the construction team.

We also have great memories of ice fishing with Garry and friends.  Ida, Sherry, Garry…..we’re thinking of you at this sad time.HazenIda&Gar

3 of the men who built the Durant: Captain Dean, all the woodworking & welding; Garry Hazen, the plumbing and wiring; Bill Cooley, installed the engines and did the mechanical work.
