Relax, Rejuvenate and Revive with a Unique Cruise Experience
Everybody knows the health benefits associated with exercise. We are all aware of the importance of a healthy diet and a good workout routine and most of us have an awareness about the essential vitamins and minerals needed to keep our bodies working at optimum levels. That said, how many of us concentrate our efforts on doing, well… nothing? Is it likely that in between working, raising a family, trying to maintain a healthy eating and exercise regime whilst running a home that we actively pay attention to the deep relaxation our bodies really need? Realistically, probably not. Maybe we are all ‘too busy’ to listen to our bodies – and maybe we are all a little bit conditioned into living life constantly ‘on the go’. The truth is that as much as exercise and good nutrition are vital for ensuring optimum health, true relaxation is an equally important element which should be included within any health regime – and this article will explore the many health benefits associated with true relaxation. Take a deep breath, loosen your shoulders and imagine you are on a Raquette Lake Cruise – then consider how you can boost your health simply by being a little indulgent with your time.
The Opposite of Relaxation is Stress
Perhaps the simplest way to outline the health benefits associated with recreational relaxation is by explaining the perils of ‘doing too much’. We all encounter various stressful situations in our everyday lives – the morning commute to work, the school run, a busy grocery store, an overdue bill, a heavy workload or a deadline. We can’t do much to change these stressors (unless we win the lottery!) but we can adapt and make our lives much easier by investing in ‘me time’. The human body is clever – it gives us signals that indicate we need to slow down and take some time out – but it’s up to us to respond. If we ignore the signs indicating prolonged stress, we are open to a myriad of health problems including high blood pressure, headaches, heart palpitations, sleep disturbances – even cancer and heart disease.
Healthy Mind = Healthy Body
All human beings are psychosomatic to a certain extent. This means we all react to stressful situations in similar ways – and we each benefit from recreational activities which help us to relax. In fact, the National Cancer Institute advise that stress has been linked with our ability (or inability) to heal from cancer. The rush of adrenaline which courses through our bodies when encountering a stressful scenario needs to be actively redressed, whether via a relaxing cruise or a leisurely meal (or preferably both!). However, relaxation is not simply a tool for combatting stress – it is also a crucial ingredient to maintain good health and should feature with regularity in our daily lives.
Using Recreational Relaxation as a Method of Prevention – As Well As Cure
For all the wonders of modern living, it could be argued that our frenetic pace of life has caused a great many health problems. It is a sad fact that many people turn to unhealthy habits in a bid to cope with modern living – be it in the form of addictions, unhealthy food, alcohol abuse or even prescription medication. Some believe that ‘ Instead of addressing life’s obstacles, tackling daily stress and/or confronting past or present trauma…addict[s] respond to pain by resorting to a pseudo-coping mechanism’. Whilst relaxation cannot possibly substitute a monitored treatment programme, learning alternative coping mechanisms is a fundamental element of recovery – and learning to truly relax and ‘take stock’ is one such coping technique and should, surely, become integral to every individual lifestyle. The New York City Government official guidelines advise that taking time out to focus on relaxation can boost our health and our immune systems. The human body is in a constant state of contradiction – our minds and our bodies yearn for nature, fresh air, peace and tranquillity but our society has evolved to promote work, activity, targets, deadlines and an overwhelming need to ‘be the best’ in all that we do. The truth is, no amount of recreational relaxation will change the memento of our lives but it will give us the health boosting tools necessary to cope with modern life.
Be a Little Indulgent – Your Health is Worth It
So, if you are looking for a way to boost your health, consider booking a fantastic cruise experience. Not only will you enjoy fabulous company, amazing (nutritional) food and breathtaking scenery, you will feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle all of your problems and stressful situations head on. Relaxation isn’t all about meditation – it can be fun, too! Taking the advice offered by the New York Times and simply ‘doing nothing’ will inevitably help us do more – a contradiction well worth keeping in mind.
